The Retro Reticule is a fun salute to vintage purses. Its crescent shape was popular in the mid-1900s, but the word "reticule"goes back a little further in history. It refers to a small handbag, typically having a drawstring (sort of like my Bundled Up Bindle Bag, but smaller).
In Regency England, you would have seen fancy ladies carrying their "must haves" in little pouches matching that description. This pattern has updated the reticule to 21st century requirements. You carry this bag around by a wrist strap that is embellished with ribbon.
There are two zippers on it to keep your belongings secure, with one that opens into a centre divider pocket that separates the bag into two halves. Use of fusible interfacing and fleece results in a bag that holds its shape and offers protection for its contents. Reminiscent of a fortune cookie, this would be a cute bag for proms, weddings or a party night on the town! It'll make a great gift for any of those upcoming occasions this year. Depending on what fabric you choose, you can go elegantly upscale or playfully whimsical. An experienced beginner should be able to tackle this project without too much difficulty. Even if you think you don't like zippers, the process used for this bag is painless.
