This little tote is the best everyday bag! It has little details that make your heart glad and the great news is that none of them are very difficult. One great thing about this bag (and it was hard to choose just the one), is the bound top zipper. I love these secure and neat ways to close a bag and I reckon that you will too.
Skill level:
Confident beginner with some knowledge assumed.
Sizing info:
13 ½” wide x 13” tall x 4” deep
Suggested Fabrics:
quilting weight cotton, denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needle cord, waxed cotton, oilcloth
Materials needed:
Fabric:
½ yd. – 1yd. canvas or similar weight fabric for the outer
¼ yd. contrasting fabric for the base. I have chosen a solid coloured canvas but any similar weight fabric would be lovely too. Denim or oilskin would be another good one.
¾ yd. – 1 yd. cotton fabric for the lining
Interfacing:
1 yd. Style-vil foam interfacing (Vlieseline)
Fat eighth S320 fusible interfacing (Vlieseline)
Everything Else:
Zippers. I have used metal zips this time but you can use a continuous one too.
- 1x 6” metal zip for the front zipper box pocket (#5)
- 1x 20” metal zip for the main top bound zipper (#5)
- 1x 6” plastic zipper to match the lining for the internal zipper box pocket (#3)
50” of 1 ½” wide webbing for the handles
1 rivet to match your zipper teeth colour (optional)
Piece of leather or vegan leather 4” wide x 22” long for the handle trims, the zipper pull decorations and the leather tab on the end of the main top zipper
Clear drying glue suitable for fabric
The pattern:
This is a measure and cut pattern which means that you don’t have any templates (pattern pieces) to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat, and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles. You can transfer the cutting measurements to paper to create your own paper template/pattern piece if you prefer to use them. Fabric labels are included.
