How did the MyTie Makeover Mini Bag come to be? It actually started when I discovered that crafters were repurposing neck ties. I lamented the fact that my late father's ties had all (but one) been donated several years ago, so I put a task on my "to do" list to look for a project that can be done with just a single tie.
After finding some terrific looking purses made out of single ties but encountering no luck whatsoever in finding a pattern for how to make them, I put a challenge to myself to come up with my own! So here it is: a purse that's made out of ONE tie, with additional fabric of your choice for the interior lining and any pockets.
What's it good for? Well, talk about versatile... make it with a long enough strap for crossbody use and it can be your perfect hands-free shopping partner. (It's actually surprisingly roomy!) Make it out of a tie with a subdued print, clip on a chain, and it's your "fancy night out" bag. Choose a whimsical tie and it'll be the most unique gift your favourite little girl has ever received! Finally, leave off the strap and it becomes a clever clutch. And because every tie is ever so slightly different, your finished bag is bound to be one of a kind!
The best part is, this project won't cost an arm and a leg to make because you can always get ties for cheap — or even nothing — and you can use fun fabric remnants for the interior. Or make the lining out of a shirt worn by the same person who used to wear the tie for a complete "memory" gift.
Oh and here's the bonus part — this PDF pattern features THREE (3) different variations on the theme! It's like getting three patterns in one, or two free patterns. (Note that you will be required to make custom templates to fit the tie that you're working with, but full instructions are provided as to
how to do this... don't worry; it's not hard.)
This is a 59 page PDF. It includes over 100 photos (!) to ensure that you have success with this unique project.
