Remember writing? An actual letter on paper? With a nice pen? Well it is making a comeback in a big way. Oh, yeah, email is still sort of a thing and it is quick and all but the giving and receiving of letters is one of life’s simple pleasures. I designed this writing compendium to hold all of your letter composing needs in one beautifully elegant case. Not convinced that writing is ever going to be a big deal again? No problem. I have a second one of these which I use as a sewing case. It is perfect for on-the-go and it holds everything that I need. Sewing certainly IS a Thing!
Skill level: confident beginner onwards with some knowledge assumed.
Sizing info:
Finished Size: 10” tall, x 8” wide x 1” deep
Suggested Fabrics: quilting weight cotton, denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needle cord, tapestry fabric, jacquard
Materials needed:
Fabric:
FQ canvas for the outer.
½ yd. lining fabric. Pure cotton is best and you will get the best results from it. You will have some left over from your half yard but the frustrating thing is that you need just a little more than a FQ. Well it feeds the stash.
FQ of a solid fabric to make the bias binding (optional). You can also use shop bought but bear in mind that the colour match may not be the best.
Fat Eighth mesh fabric to coordinate with your other colours
Interfacing:
FQ style-vil sew in foam interfacing (Vlieseline)
FQ H630 fusible fleece (Vlieseline)
12” strip G740 fusible interfacing (Vlieseline)
FQ S133 very firm fusible interfacing (Vlieseline)
Everything Else:
27” heavy duty zipper. I am using a continuous zipper but if you choose a ‘normal’ one, that is no problem, just make sure that it is long enough and then cut the stopper off and re-sew across the end to make a new one. You need a heavier duty zip for this to look right and they often have a clunky and divisible stopper.
7” regular zipper for the zipper box pocket on the back
The pattern:
This is a measure and cut pattern which means that you don’t have any templates (pattern pieces) to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat, and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles. You can transfer the cutting measurements to paper to create your own paper template/pattern piece if you prefer to use them.
