Every good bag collection needs a mini grab-and-go bag that holds only the essentials. The Brooklyn Mini Crossbody Bag has been designed to take a wallet, your keys, phone, and some really small other things like an item of makeup or a cloth for cleaning glasses and maybe a fold-up shopping bag for a quick and unexpected market visit. This Crossbody Bag is light and simple and yet it seems to hold most of the things that go into a big bag. Except for the kitchen sink, you will have trouble with that. It fits neatly across the body and can actually be worn under your jacket, especially when you are in the city. So it is secure too.

Best of all, this is the first in a special collection that the designer, The Folk Art Factory, is calling the Mini-Series. These are small bags which give you everything that you need in a small package.

This pattern features a sophisticated (but dead easy) buckle strap that is fully adjustable, a zipper front pocket, and two mesh slip pockets inside.

Suggested Fabrics for this bag are quilting weight cotton, denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needlecord, waxed cotton, oilcloth.

Finished size:
4 ¼” wide by 7” tall by 1 ½” deep.

Skill level:
Confident beginner with some knowledge assumed. Some bits are a bit fiddly but they are not actually difficult. Go slow and don’t forget that there are tutorials on the designer's blog which focus on the bits which can trip up some newbies – zipper box pockets and things like that. Just lookout for the links as you need them.

Materials needed:

  • ¼ - ½ yd. canvas for the outer,
  • ¼ - ½ yd. lining fabric,
  • Fat Quarter mesh fabric to match or coordinate,
  • ½ yd. Style-vil foam interfacing (Vlieseline),

  • Two ½” bronze D rings,
  • 6 bronze rivets for the strap,
  • 6-8 bronze eyelets for the strap,
  • One 9” metal zipper for the main gusset zip,
  • One 4” metal zipper for the front zip,
  • Clear drying glue suitable for fabric,
  • Coordinating threads for all fabrics and trims,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.

Pattern:
This is a measure and cut pattern which means that you don’t have any templates (pattern pieces) to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat, and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles. You can transfer the cutting measurements to paper to create your own paper template/pattern piece if you prefer to use them. Printable labels are included for organizing your cut fabric pieces.
